The Pitcher Plant
Its Amazing Adaptation:The Pitcher Plant is most commonly known as Nepenthes or Sarracenia and has a very distinctive adaptation. It has become a carnivorous plant due to poor nutrient soil living conditions. This magnificent adaption has taken over a million years to happen. The Pitcher Plant and other carnivorous plants like the Venus Fly Trap at one point were almost extinct so the plant evolved this special feature to absorb nutrients. But not to mention this change has taken a very long period of time. A Pitcher Plant has a very unique ability to catch prey. It uses its brightly coloured leaves to attract its prey, as the insect comes closer to the sudden drop the plant uses nectar to
attract it. Then all of a sudden it drops into a pool of poison and gradually dissolves and becomes The Pitcher Plant's food. |
