Texas Horned Lizard
Its Amazing Adaptation:The Texas Horned Lizard (Phrynosoma cornutom – Phrynosoma – “Toad Body,” cornutom – “Horned”) is a type of horned lizard that is commonly known for its weird, but most amazing adaptation. It has
a blood shooting defense that shoot from the corners of the lizard’s eyes that can scare its predators away. The blood defense is necessary when being held or being disturbed. Not only can they defend themselves by squirting blood, but they can also use most of their body to manage more than one adaptation. Another way these lizards adapt for survival is by camouflaging their bodies. Their colouring, their spikes and their ability to flatten themselves to help them avoid being eaten. On the outer line of the body, they can camouflage themselves to be less noticeable for the predator to see from above. If a predator would try to eat the other lizard, the lizard would puff it’s body so its spiny scales would pierce the throat or the stomach inside the animal predator. The lizard would like to play dead on the ground when a predator approaches the lizard. They can also run along short distances to run away from predators.
